Why do quinceaneras have a mass?

A quinceanera often begins her day by attending Mass to honor God and offer thanksgiving. Her entrance consists of her father and mother on either side of her and present her to the alter.

What is the difference between the flower headpiece and the tiara?

The symbol for both means that she is a princess before God. Traditionaly when she enters the church she wears the flowered headpiece symbolizing innocence and childhood, then at the reception usually her mother replaces it with the tiara symbolizing coming of age.

What gifts are presented during Mass and what do they symbolize?

A prayer book or Bible is presented symbolizing as a reminder to keep the word of God in her life.

A rosary is presented symbolizing a tool in her spiritual life.

A ring or bracelet is presented symbolizing the never-ending circle of life and the cycle of womanhood.

Earings are presented as a symbol to keep her ears attuned to the voice of God and her world.

A medallion is presented symbolizing her faithe and her celebration; usually with the number 15 engraved.

Candles are lit to symbolize each year of her life.

How many should the court of honor consist of?

The court of honor usually consist of 7 yourn men and 7 young ladies with the quinceanera being the 15th.

What is the symbol of the last doll?

The last doll is dressed up to look like the quinceanera herself and is usually presented by her godparents or her father. It symbolizes that she is now a young woman and no longer a liittle child. Then she turns and presents the doll to a child symbolizing her first doll.

Shoe changing?

It marks the transition from child to young woman. She starts off with flat shoes and after the presentation of the last doll her father changes her flats to high heels.

Who dances the waltz with the quinceanera?

She first dances with her father, then her honor escort and then the court of honor joins in. Usually a waltz is practised four months before the event and is the main highlight of the quinceanera.

Toast?

The parents lead the toast by giving thanks for their daughter and for the people that surrounds her. The quinceanera then may choose to make a thank you speech.
